Preschool education is essential for the social and creative development of a child, setting the foundation for a great start in primary school. Lamp, located in Glyfada, hosts children aged between 2.5 and 6, and is based on a holistic approach with the following main motto: by finding the activity that best suits them, children \u201clearn through playing\u201d. Besides, this motto is the reason for the school\u2019s name \u201cLamp\u201d, which is basically an acronym for \u201cLearning Ability Means Playing\u201d.<\/p>\n

What makes Lamp stand out? The fact that each space created with particular attention to detail and respecting the need for maximum safety, includes plenty of different stimuli for the children to explore. \u201cWe tried to create different spaces, unique corners, various types of activities for children to feel autonomous and have enough stimuli around them,\u201d explained Angeliki Kakoliri, founder of Lamp and educationalist.<\/p>\n

A normal day at Lamp starts with \u201cGood morning\u201d, a smile and a song in the yard, as well as breakfast in the kitchen or in the yard. Then, it\u2019s time for activities to be carried out in all school areas, depending on the weekly theme. Some of the themes are physical science, robotics, English language, math, music and sports education. \u201cThose busy hours are followed by lunch and free game. Children usually choose their favorite room which is called \u201cbaby corner\u201d. It\u2019s a specially designed area with carpeted floors, large asymmetrical cloths and a library full of various fairytales and toys.\u201d<\/p>\n

What is very important is that the Lamp personnel offers guidance and support to ensure the smooth integration of children who are not native Greek speakers. \u201cWe help kids that speak English, translating everything we do during our thematic activities and explaining everything while trying talking in Greek as well, so that they slowly start to learn the language and communicate easier.<\/p>\n
