Strange as it may seem, there are beaches for nudists in Athens too. They just need a little more searching and, sometimes, a little more walking. But the sense of freedom you feel when you swim with absolutely nothing on you is more than enough of a reward.<\/p>\n

Beaches where nudity is permitted in Greece exist about 60 years old. For the first time in 1959, followers of the movement tried to rent a hotel in Loutraki and turn it into an organised hospitality centre, but met with opposition from the local community and authorities.<\/p>\n

However, 1983 can be considered the official date of the establishment of nudism in Greece with the passing of the relevant law by the Greek Parliament. In fact, Greece, together with France and Croatia, claims some of the top positions in the preferences of nudists.<\/p>\n

Among the plethora of beaches in the southern suburbs, there could not be any nudism friendly beaches, to feel that you are coming one step closer to nature. Let’s see where they are.<\/p>\n

B Vouliagmeni harbours<\/h2>\n

Perhaps it is the first thing that comes to mind when we look for nude beaches in Athens. A lovely cove with clear blue waters, just a few meters away from the road, that you have surely noticed while driving along the coastal road. It is an ideal destination if you prefer tranquility and less crowded beaches, natural beauty and clear waters.<\/p>\n

To get there you can either take bus 122 or your vehicle. From the center of Athens it is 35 to 40 minutes away, on weekdays. B Limanakia has a parking lot on the right side of the road, while to go downhill to the turquoise creek you have to go down a dirt path – so wear either sneakers or a good “laced” sandal, but no flip-flops.<\/p>\n

KAPE beach (the right one)<\/h2>\n

Perhaps the most beautiful beach in Attica, which reminds us of an island. But what we will tell you now is that right next to the famous KAPE beach, there is another smaller one and it is for nudists.<\/p>\n

First of all, let’s see how you get there. Just before Legrena, in the direction of Sounion and specifically at the 63rd km. Sounion, at the end of the long straight after the settlement of Harakas, there is a big sign that says “Property of KAPE (Centre for Renewable Energy Sources)” and there you have to turn right.<\/p>\n

After you go down the steps to KAPE, you’ll continue on to the tiny beach next door for nude swimming, which even has beautiful caves to explore.<\/p>\n

Ribas in Varkiza<\/h2>\n

From Vouliagmeni to Varkiza, there are various beautiful coves to discover and dive in a more free mood, either with or without your swimsuit. One of them is the cove under the famous Ribas in Varkiza (where the bus stop of the same name is).<\/p>\n

The descent to the beach is a bit challenging but the place makes up for it. A rocky beach with beautiful scenery, blue waters and quietness to enjoy your swim in total freedom.<\/p>\n

Nudist beach at Sounion, under the Temple of Poseidon<\/h2>\n

Is there a better feeling than swimming naked and free in the beautiful waters of Sounion with a view of the imposing Temple of Poseidon? So here we will tell you the necessary information to experience it.<\/p>\n

Just before the entrance to the archaeological site of Sounion, where the fork begins, and to the right, as we look towards the temple, there is a large parking area, while on the left there is a fence with a small brown sign informing about the existence of the temple of Athena. There is a path that, after a relatively steep descent of about 200m, leads to a double small pebble beach. One part, separated from the other by a large rock, is considered a nudist beach. You won’t have any trouble figuring out which is which. The beach is actually at 68 km from Athens, and you can get there by bus (10 minutes from the end).<\/p>\n

Black Lithari (northern part)<\/h2>\n

Let us make it clear that we are not referring to the well-known, organized beach of Mavro Lithari, where people flock from all over Athens, but to the beach where the hotel of the same name is built. From there you walk towards the northern part of the beach and you will find that you can swim naked in turquoise waters.<\/p>\n

Agios Nikolaos<\/h2>\n

Another beach that is on the list of those that make you forget you are in Athens is Agios Nikolaos in Anavyssos. A beach which apart from the beautiful scenery, which reminds you of something from Bella Vraka in Sivota or Balos in Crete, offers a plethora of possibilities for all tastes. These options include, of course, nudism.<\/p>\n

Access is convenient and you’ll find it easy to park (we reserve a reservation for weekends), as you can already see it from the street while you’re on Athinon-Souniou. It has a large parking lot, so you won’t have a hard time grabbing a spot. Then you have to walk across the sandy beach. Passing the hillock (you’d better bring closed shoes and not flip-flops), you’ll see a tiny beach where you can do nudism. Blue-green waters, beautiful natural scenery, quiet and relaxing atmosphere complete the scene.<\/p>\n

It’s a good idea to get the essentials (water, coffee, snacks, etc.) in advance because you’re unlikely to find anything nearby.<\/p>\n
