Mavro Lithari, one of the most famous beaches in the south suburbs of Athens, is one of the most ideal spots for swimming in the sea in Attica.<\/p>\n

The clear and calm waters on most days of summer allow you to play in the sea, but also to take endless dives for you who can’t get enough of swimming. Note that the water deepens quite steeply, so families with children need an extra caution. Plus, if you get closer to the rocks, you’ll see that there are some very beautiful caves, perfect for exploring with a mask. Its trademark is the massive black rock in the middle, from which it even got its name.<\/p>\n

You should also know that the beach is organised, so you can choose between a sunbed or a pouf for a relaxing day in the sun, but keep in mind that there is a piece of land at the edge where you can lay out a mat and sit with your friends.<\/p>\n

Plus: For adrenaline junkies and anyone who wants to try something more extreme, there are water sports for an alternative day at the beach.<\/p>\n

After a swim, a stop for lunch is a must and, nearby, an interesting choice is the Cortile restaurant, where you can enjoy Italian specialities with creative twists. If you still want to snack on the beach, what better way to end the day than with a cool ice cream? At Amarantos<\/a> you’ll enjoy fresh ice cream in a cone or cup, as well as delicious handmade rockets and sticks – whatever your appetite pulls you in, in short.<\/p>\n

Access to the beach<\/h2>\n

Access by vehicle is particularly easy. From Glyfada you will need to drive for about 40 minutes, while from the center of Athens it will take about an hour. After passing the beach of Saronida, three minutes later you will see the sign that says “Mavro Lithari” and turn right. The parking area is quite large. If you’re lucky you might even find shade.<\/p>\n

For you coming by public transport, there is bus 122, which starts from the metro station of Argyroupoli and ends its route in the centre of Saronida. From there, you’ll need to walk about 15 minutes to get to Mavro Lithari.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
