A few years ago, one of those mixed summer groups – the kind that only exist during the warm months – was playing a board game when someone suggested a trip to the beach the next day.<\/p>\n

And so Sunday dawned, and early in the morning we gathered, beach bags in hand, swimsuits under our clothes, and set off for Psatha. There\u2019s a little corner there that rewards every visitor with its beauty.<\/p>\n

Psatha Beach<\/a> is located about an hour from Athens and stretches along 2.5 km of coastline. As you drive into the area, you\u2019ll notice a fair number of people, but the beach is long enough that you won\u2019t be packed in shoulder to shoulder.<\/p>\n\r\n\r\n

It caters to all tastes – there\u2019s room to set up your own umbrella, beach mats, and chairs, and there are also beach bars with loungers and music. A little further down from the beach bars, you\u2019ll find a row of tavernas that fill up around lunchtime with swimmers looking to eat.<\/p>\n

When you arrive in Psatha, try not to stay near the beach bar area. Keep walking past the tavernas, and at the very end of the beach, there\u2019s a small stretch that feels almost idyllic. Small trees blend in with the rocks to the right, and little boats bob rhythmically on the water. Everything is calmer here – the sounds of the sea, nature, and conversations from nearby groups are all you\u2019ll hear. It\u2019s a small piece of beach, so it\u2019s best to arrive early to secure a spot.<\/p>\n

After all that swimming and sunbathing, you\u2019ll definitely be hungry, and the nearby tavernas are the obvious next step. Taverna Angelos has a cement terrace that practically hovers above the blue sea. Truly, after a day under the sun, there\u2019s nothing better than sitting down with your group to a table full of seafood, cold beer, and ouzo.<\/p>\n\r\n\r\n

Angelos is the quintessential summer fish taverna, where fresh fish takes center stage. The fish arrives fresh and grilled to perfection, its white flesh fragrant and tender. The fried options are just as good – golden calamari and small fish cooked to a perfect crisp. A must-try are the steamed mussels, best enjoyed with shell in hand to slurp up the flavorful broth. That\u2019s the only proper way to eat them, after all.<\/p>\n

The afternoon will find you still in Psatha, watching the sun set and feeling like you\u2019ve just had a vacation day – even if you’re only an hour or so from Athens.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
