Aegina is perhaps the top island destination for a quick getaway from Athens. Just an hour away, this Saronic Gulf island has everything you could want, offering the perfect antidote to the city’s noise and stress.
As your ferry approaches the port, Aegina’s neoclassical buildings unfold before your eyes. But the island is much more than its town. Just a short drive away, you’ll find clean beaches in Marathonas and Aeginitissa, cozy tavernas in Perdika, and the seaside village of Agia Marina.

Agia Marina is just 20 minutes from Aegina’s port. It boasts a sandy beach with crystal-clear waters and plenty of places to eat and grab coffee. Among the classic tavernas and laid-back cafés, there’s one particularly aesthetic corner that looks as though it’s been plucked right from Amalfi. Here, everything revolves around the famous sfusato amalfitano—the iconic lemon variety grown in the Italian town, known for its unique sweetness and vivid color.
This is Amare, a beach restaurant inspired by Italian philosophy.

On Amare’s veranda, lemon trees climb up walls and awnings, decorate vases and placemats. The space is dressed in shades of white, blue, and yellow, creating a bold, spirited setting full of Mediterranean character.
That Mediterranean mood carries over to the menu, where you’ll find everything from arancini and crudo to seafood pasta and fresh fish. If you’re not in the mood for a sit-down meal, you can always enjoy the striped loungers instead. Plush cushions rest beneath fabric umbrellas, evoking the vibe of a Jacquemus pop-up beach club in Saint-Tropez.

Swim, and then cool off with a refreshing cocktail or a lemon granita under the hot summer sun.
At Amare, dolce far niente takes on a summer twist, offering an idyllic moment—even if it’s just for a day trip.
