Led by Depy Sigala, Butterfly Capital Projects undertakes the coordination of demanding, highly complex projects, covering everything from the study phase and the coordination of the various disciplines involved (architectural, structural and electromechanical studies), to the construction phase, supervision of works and contract management.
Butterfly Capital Projects is a consulting firm active in the management and coordination of development and construction projects, from the feasibility study and initial design stage through to construction readiness, aiming to address critical gaps that often emerge during the transition from design to permitting and ultimately to implementation. As Depy Sigala, President and Managing Director of the company, explains, Butterfly Capital Projects was created following market research which revealed a lack in the field of design management-namely the overall coordination of the various design disciplines required for the issuance of the relevant permits and for the tendering of a project for construction.
The company was founded in March 2022 and initially focused on the coordination of studies. Over time, its scope expanded, as project needs and client requirements led to a more comprehensive project management framework. At the pre-construction stage, Butterfly Capital Projects undertakes the coordination of studies at all levels of the process and ensures that the file submitted for permitting is complete and fully coordinated across architectural, structural, mechanical, topographical and other studies. At the same time, it supports the client in critical cost management matters through cost consulting and cost coordination, while also providing assistance in contractor selection so that the project can move smoothly to the next phase. Ms. Sigala notes that the company does not produce studies itself, but operates in a complementary role, working closely with the designers while assuming the role of central coordinator.
During the construction phase, the company is present with services in the field of construction management, supervising the quality and progress of construction, managing issues that arise during the course of the project, identifying solutions and providing overall support to meet project needs. The objective is to ensure adherence to both schedule and budget, combined with uncompromising construction quality. The philosophy described by Ms. Sigala is based on the high level of professionalism of the Butterfly Capital Projects team, combined with the creative enthusiasm that comes from active participation in large and complex projects, practical experience and the ability to manage multiple parameters simultaneously-from procedural and legislative requirements to collaboration with a wide range of stakeholders.
The Butterfly Capital Projects team consists primarily of professionals such as architects, civil engineers and mechanical engineers, while legal support is also provided for contract management and organizational matters. In terms of staffing, the company employs 10 permanent team members, while also collaborating with external offices and maintaining a flexible network of partners in Greece and abroad that is activated depending on the requirements of each project.
Projects in which the company has participated
In terms of sectors of activity, the company operates in fields such as hospitality and tourism projects, office buildings, infrastructure works, retail and especially airports—a sector in which Butterfly Capital Projects has a particular competitive advantage, stemming from the extensive experience of its team in airport projects with a high degree of technical complexity and demanding coordination among multiple stakeholders.
Among the notable projects in which it has participated are the new international airport in Kasteli, Heraklion, and the expansion of Athens International Airport, collaborations on office buildings with Alpha Bank on Korai Street as well as on Stadiou Street at the new Campus, the provision of specialized consulting services for sports facilities such as those of Panathinaikos Amateur, hotel developments in luxury five-star units in the Petalioi of Evia and in Kalo Livadi, Mykonos (investment projects of Grivalia Hospitality), as well as a series of high-spec residential projects in Elliniko, Kavouri, Vouliagmeni and Halandri.
Strong interest in developments along the coastal front
At the same time, the company is closely monitoring developments related to the redevelopment of the coastal front of Southern Athens and the utilization of organized beaches along the Athens Riviera. As Ms. Sigala suggests, the developments taking place in the construction and investment landscape of the Southern Suburbs of Athens align with the mix of technical management and complex coordination in which Butterfly Capital Projects specializes, particularly considering the experience of members of its team with “Athines by the Sea” (formerly A’ Plaz Voula), both at the level of studies and project management.
The profile and career path of Depy Sigala in design and technical project management
Based on the statements of its President and Managing Director, Butterfly Capital Projects emerges as a relatively new but dynamically growing company positioned between the design and implementation stages of projects, functioning as the connective “tissue” that ensures a project progresses in an organized and coordinated way, with control over critical parameters, from the first design drawing to the construction site.
Depy Sigala belongs to the generation of architects who moved from the purely creative field of architecture to the complex process of project management, where design intersects with implementation and where detail becomes a matter of coordination, responsibility and decision-making. Her professional starting point lies in architectural offices. She began as a junior architect at the office of Manos Perrakis, gaining valuable knowledge in theatre design. She then collaborated with the office of Thymios Papagiannis & Associates as a Project Architect, gaining experience in sports facilities (the redevelopment of the Faliro Bay area for the 2004 Olympic Games), hotels and hospital design. Subsequently, her professional path led her to AETER, the company of Harry Bougadellis, in the field of architectural management, during the initial design phase for seven of the fourteen regional airports, with responsibility for management, consistency in execution and functionality, ensuring that each project was implemented clearly and within the predetermined timeline.
A key chapter in her career was her tenure at Fraport Greece, where she assumed the role of Head of Planning and Design. This transition also marked her entry into a large-scale project environment in the aviation sector, characterized by increased complexity and multiple stakeholders, where design must simultaneously serve operational needs, technical specifications, schedules and strict compliance frameworks.
Today, at Butterfly Capital Projects, Depy Sigala serves at the helm as President and Managing Director, leveraging her accumulated experience to organize, coordinate and support projects with a professional perspective that combines design expertise with practical implementation. Her career also highlights the importance of female presence in a sector traditionally dominated by men, such as construction. Through the activities of Butterfly Capital Projects, she actively promotes female entrepreneurship and the advancement of women professionals into positions of responsibility.
