Eating your way to Sounio
- 13/08/2026
The route along the Athens-Sounio coastal avenue hosts established fish taverns and restaurants that stay true to authentic seafood flavors and the catch of the day. The article was published in "The Table," NouPou Media’s new premium publication dedicated to gastronomy on the Athenian Riviera.
Stamatis
With the well-kept flowerpots in the yard and the characteristic bougainvillea at the entrance, making it easy to spot when arriving by car, Stamatis has been one of the regular stops in Legraina for fresh fish and appetizers since 1995. Its philosophy has remained constant over the years, emphasizing seasonality, quality ingredients and warm hospitality.
The fish of the day, calamari, octopus and good pan-fried dishes make up a simple and approachable menu, while the tables on the large terrace offer a panoramic view of the sea.
Apomero
Although it is not visible from the coastal avenue (which means that you should know in advance how to get there), Apomero is no longer a well-kept secret for the lucky few, having gained loyal patrons from all over Athens.
Under the shady mulberry trees, with pebbles underfoot and the sea visible in the distance, this family business, operating in Thymari since 1993, is synonymous with the authentic summer tavern. The kitchen avoids ostentation, focusing on fresh seafood, but also on careful selections of seasonal meats.
Kyra Popi
In its cool courtyard, Kyra Popi has been welcoming its guests since 1996, having established itself as one of the most beloved destinations for fish and seafood in Lagonisi. Its cuisine is based on excellent raw materials, with fresh fish from the Aegean and recipes that balance tradition with modern culinary touches. From crayfish ceviche and orzo risotto with shrimp to grilled fish and handmade spoon sweets, each dish reflects the care, culinary experience and consistency of a business with a long history.
Vallis Syrtaki Restaurant
With a history that begins in 1966, Vallis Syrtaki Restaurant is one of the most established gastronomic destinations on the Athens Riviera. A few minutes from the Temple of Poseidon, the Vallis family continues the tradition built by the first generation,
investing in fresh ingredients and a creative approach to Greek cuisine.
In addition to the fish of the day, the raw bar menu –from anchovy ceviche to sea bass carpaccio– and the seafood pasta options stand out.
