Dr. Alexandros Antonaras, Campus and UNIC Health Director of UNIC Athens, outlines the vision and development strategy of UNIC Athens, highlighting its dynamic growth, its connection to the ecosystem of The Ellinikon, and its broader socio-economic impact at the local, national, and international level.
UNIC Athens, the academic and research hub of the University of Nicosia in Greece, is designed as an integrated ecosystem of knowledge, innovation, and social progress. Based in Elliniko, with expansion plans within The Ellinikon, it aspires to become a point of reference in the Mediterranean for sustainable and technology-enhanced higher education.
The competitive advantages of UNIC Athens stem from the combination of international academic standards, applied research, and strong links with the labor market. Its presence within a rapidly evolving urban environment, its use of advanced technologies, and its integration with international knowledge networks and research centers, make it more agile and outward-looking than traditional university models.
Key milestones for UNIC Athens include its successful launch in November 2025 with high-demand study programs, its operation in state-of-the-art facilities, and the activation of strategic partnerships, such as its collaboration with Hellenic Healthcare Group for the establishment of the first non-state Medical School. This partnership provides students with access to leading hospitals for clinical training and research, substantially enhancing their career prospects. Together, these elements shape a comprehensive model that bridges education with the labor market and research, creating a strong impact.

The study programs at UNIC Athens are tailored to new realities, international trends, and the needs of businesses and the economy. They incorporate student-centered teaching methods, leverage technology at every stage of the educational process, and focus on developing modern skills, preparing students for roles and professions shaped within an environment of continuous change.
The UNIC Athens campus is evolving into a ‘living laboratory’ that fosters interdisciplinary thinking and promotes innovation, with the aim of producing high-value research. Within this context, UNIC Evolve is being developed as the university’s research pillar, exploring how artificial intelligence can be leveraged to improve human life, with a particular emphasis on healthspan and longevity.
In its next phases of development, UNIC Athens will evolve into the only university campus within The Ellinikon, with a total development of 75,000 sq.m. and infrastructure dedicated to teaching, research, and student accommodation. Leveraging the advantages of this new ‘smart’ and ‘green’ city, it will operate as a catalyst for innovation and a driver of knowledge creation with tangible social and economic impact, further strengthening the role of The Ellinikon as a hub of sustainable development and outward-looking growth.
